THE WINTER’S TALE

BARD ON THE BAY 2025

THE WINTER’S TALE

BY WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE

SYNOPSIS

Betrayal, magic, and redemption collide in William Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale, a sweeping tale that moves from the icy grips of jealousy to the sunlit shores of hope.

When King Leontes of Sicilia is seized by the suspicion that his wife Hermione has betrayed him with his closest friend, his world spirals into madness.
The King’s jealousy sets off a tragic chain of events—destroying his family and shattering lives. But this is only the beginning.

Sixteen years later, a young woman raised by shepherds discovers she’s more than she seems, and fate starts pulling all the broken pieces back together. There’s romance, mistaken identities, a dramatic reunion, and yes, that infamous stage direction: “Exit, pursued by a bear.”

Shakespeare blends tragedy with comedy in this bold, genre-defying masterpiece. The Winter’s Tale is a magical journey from darkness to light,
proving that even the coldest winter can give way to the warmth of forgiveness and the wonder of second chances.
