THE REVIEWS ARE IN
No Chance is Hell opened this weekend and we have our first review!
Awesome is the first word that comes to mind after seeing No Chance in Hell, a Musical today at the Simcoe Theatre in Collingwood, Ontario.
Some thirty years ago I saw my first musical on Broadway – Sophisticated Ladies a musical revue based on the music of Duke Ellington. It featured songs “Take the “A” Train”, “I’m Beginning to See the Light”, “Hit Me With a Hot Note and Watch Me Bounce”, “It Don’t Mean a Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing)”, “In a Sentimental Mood”, “Sophisticated Lady”, “Don’t Get Around Much Anymore”, “Satin Doll”, and “I Got It Bad and That Ain’t Good,” among many others. It had a 5 star rating and there was no doubt why. I left the theatre feeling excited, inspired by the sense that I had just shared something so special it could never be compared.
I’ve since seen many shows but the only one that ever brought me as much joy as Sophisticated Ladies was Catswhich I saw twice at the Pantages Theatre in Toronto. Needless to say I love live theatre and musicals in particular. I’ve been in Simcoe County for 3 years now, there’s only 2 things I miss – shopping and live theatre.
Today that changed, I saw no Chance in Hell and I have to tell you I left with a feeling not unlike the feeling I experienced some 30 years ago after seeing a show on Broadway for the first time. Add one more to the list of ‘my favourite memories all seem to happen in Collingwood’. Here’s to seeing more of this kind of show and talent.
A big, heartfelt thank you to John Chris and Kevin Fox for writing it; Julia Beaulieu for Directing; An incredible ensemble of talented actors with beautiful voices, including Jackie-Rose Brown, Heather Dennis, Cameron Donsberger, Heather Ann Hanson, Matt Lacas, Cory Laycock, Nadia Mear, Candy Pryce, Deanne Service, Musical Director – Blaine Sack, Stephanie Fowler, Producer and Franz Greenfield, Stage Manager.
The show will be in Wasaga Beach on November 26th so get your tickets while you still can, you won’t be sorry.
